North Antrim MP Jim Allister has praised the dedication of postal workers in Ballymena following an early morning tour of the town’s Royal Mail sorting facility ahead of the festive rush.
Mr Allister visited the operation with Timothy Gaston MLA, where he said he witnessed first-hand the efficiency of the centre as staff manage one of the busiest periods of the year for Royal Mail.
Speaking after the visit, the TUV leader said:
“Great to have had an early morning visit with Timothy Gaston MLA to the Ballymena Royal Mail sorting facility to see the slick Christmas operation in action.
Too often we take for granted the great work of our Postmen and Postwomen.
“Well done to all involved and a Happy Christmas to those who deliver to our homes, not just at Christmas, but year round and in all weather.”
The Ballymena sorting facility is one of the largest postal hubs in the region, handling a significant volume of seasonal parcels and letters. Royal Mail typically sees demand surge in December, with staff working extended hours to ensure timely deliveries.
Mr Allister’s comments come as postal workers across the UK prepare for the final posting dates of the festive season, often working early mornings, late evenings, and in challenging winter weather conditions.
The MP’s message of thanks echoed widespread appreciation for postal staff, who continue to play a crucial role in communities by keeping deliveries moving during the busiest time of the year.
