JD Sports is to relocate within Ballymena’s Fairhill Shopping Centre after exchanging contracts for a new 12,300 sq ft store.

The sportswear and footwear retailer will move from its existing Fairhill shop into a newly formed unit occupying a prominent corner location within the centre.

The agreement secures JD Sports’ continued presence at Fairhill and marks another step in efforts to bring the shopping centre into full occupation.

A new location within Fairhill

The new premises will give JD Sports a different setting for its footwear, sportswear and fashion ranges. An opening date has not yet been provided.

Ryan Walker, from Magmel (Ballymena) Limited, said:

“We are very pleased to have secured JD Sports for this impressive new store at the heart of Fairhill. JD is an exceptional retailer and a fantastic fit for Fairhill, and their relocation to such a prominent corner position within the centre represents a significant step towards seeing the centre fully occupied with prime retailers.”

Investment and retailer confidence

Mr Walker said the agreement reflected the impact of investment in the shopping centre and confidence in Ballymena’s retail offering.

“We are now seeing the positive impact from our investment in the Centre and this announcement demonstrates the confidence that leading retailers have in Fairhill and Ballymena.”

For shoppers, the development means an established Fairhill retailer is preparing to move within the centre.

Details of when the new premises will open, and how the changeover from the existing shop will be managed, remain to be confirmed.
