MARS BAR AND APPLE SCONES

Jill Stewart (@jillbakes_)

County Antrim Foodie and Instagrammer

Ingredient

(makes four big scones)

225g/ 8oz soda bread self-raising flour

30g/ 1oz butter or spread (I use Dromona country churn usually)

30g/ 1oz caster sugar

140ml / 1/4 pt buttermilk

2 Mars bars, sliced

1 eating apple (peeled and chopped into tiny pieces)

To decorate:

8 squares melted milk chocolate

Extra Mars bar

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees fan.

2. Rub the spread into the flour until it resembles a breadcrumb texture.

3. Add in the sugar, chopped Mars bar and apple and combine.

4. Add in buttermilk until it forms a dough. Don't overmix.

Only add enough milk to bind the ingredients, it shouldn’t be too soft or they will spread out too much. .

5. Put a little flour on your hands and roll each one into a round scone shape - this makes about 4 scones. Or you could roll out on a floured surface and use a cutter.

7. Place close together on tray and bake for 18-22 mins until just golden.

8. Drizzle over some melted milk chocolate and add a piece of Mars bar to each.

I prefer to leave them for half an hour so that the chocolate sets a little and are easier to cut but still warm and delicious!
