Former North Antrim MP Ian Paisley was hosted by the Trump team over the weekend during a private visit to the Turnberry golf resort in Scotland, where he was seen on the 18th green with the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.

The high-profile visit included time spent with members of the Trump family, including Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., fuelling further speculation over Mr Paisley’s ongoing involvement in international political affairs.

Mr Paisley’s appearance at Turnberry, which is owned by the Trump Organisation, is understood to have included a number of private working meetings reportedly related to a forthcoming state visit.

Although plans of Paisley’s attendance were not announced, it adds weight to ongoing reports that he may be pursuing a formal role in the United States, with keen interests in both politics and business.

His longstanding connections across American political circles have previously sparked discussion about such a move.

On social media, Mr Paisley said it was “fantastic to spend time with the Trump team,” and added, “I predict that the Royal & Ancient will soon make Turnberry an Open venue for golf tournaments.”

Mr Paisley was not available for further comment.

The former DUP politician has maintained a keen interest in both local and global politics since losing his seat as North Antrim MP. His visit to Turnberry and meetings with the sitting US President suggest his ambitions and next steps may now extend far beyond Northern Ireland.

President Trump’s administration continues to develop its international strategy during his current term in office, and his close association with the Turnberry resort has made it a focal point for private diplomacy and political engagement.
