McIlveen announces £19.8million for teachers’ digital devices

Education Minister Michelle McIlveen has today announced a major investment in the provision of digital devices for teachers.
Around 20,000 devices will be provided to all statutory nursery, Primary School, EOTAS centre, Special School and Post Primary teachers.
Welcoming the investment the Minister said:
“I am pleased to announce £19.8million for the replacement of all teachers’ laptops.
“For the first time, the delivery of the new devices will be supported by a wide ranging learning programme which will focus on building teacher capacity.
“Access to high quality and modern technology is vital for teachers and pupils alike and I am confident this scheme will provide an enhanced teaching experience and ultimately deliver improved learning for pupils.”
It is anticipated that the roll out will start early next year and is expected to be completed by June 2022.
The deployment of the devices will be supported by Capita Education and Learning, who alongside their technology partner Microsoft, will develop a Teacher Professional Learning programme, aimed at realising the benefits of this technology.
The contract was awarded to Capita Education and Learning on 1 November.
