HM Coastguard rescues man in his 70’s trapped in mud in Belfast Lough

HM Coastguard received an emergency call this morning (Tuesday 13 July) reporting that a man was trapped in mud, with the tide flooding around him in Belfast Lough.
Mud Rescue Technicians were tasked from Bangor and Portaferry Coastguard Rescue Teams. Lagan Search & Rescue, as well as Police Service of Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service responded to the incident.
Mud Rescue Technicians worked rapidly to free the man, who was up to his waist in water. Once free from the mud, the man who
hypothermic, was evacuated from the water by stretcher.
Coastguard and Police treated the man, who was in his late 70s, until arrival of Ambulance.
