A teenage cyclist was taken to hospital after being struck by a white jeep-style vehicle in Larne on Wednesday afternoon, with police now appealing for witnesses and footage after the driver allegedly left the scene.

The collision was reported to have happened at around 1.40pm on Wednesday 8th April near the junction of Ballyboley Road and Donaghys Lane.

Police said the cyclist, a teenage boy, was hit by the vehicle and thrown onto the bonnet before falling onto the road.

He sustained cuts and bruising in the incident and required hospital treatment.

The driver is understood to have stopped briefly and spoken with the injured teenager before driving away from the scene in the vehicle, which police say had damage to its bonnet following the collision.

Appeal for witnesses after driver leaves scene

Officers in Larne have now launched an appeal for information as enquiries continue into the hit-and-run.

The driver has been described as a man believed to be in his 40s, with a swarthy complexion, who was wearing glasses at the time of the incident.

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision or seen the vehicle before or after the crash.

They are also urging motorists or nearby residents to check any dash-cam or CCTV footage which may assist the investigation.

The incident happened on a route where local traffic and passing vehicles may have captured key moments leading up to, during, or immediately after the collision.
