Herbie Kelly, 82, named as man who sadly died in Cullybackey collision

An 82-year-old man who died following a two-vehicle collision in Cullybackey on Wednesday night has been named by police as Herbie Kelly, from the Cullybackey area.
Mr Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene on Ballyconnelly Road. The other driver was taken to hospital with injuries which police said are not believed to be serious.
Police confirm circumstances of collision
Detective Inspector Stewart, from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit, said:
“We received a report at approximately 9.25pm on Wednesday, 30th September of a two-vehicle collision in the Ballyconnelly Road area.
“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from other emergency services. Medical treatment was provided to Mr Kelly, however, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other driver involved was taken onward to hospital for treatment to injuries which are not believed to be serious.
“The Ballyconnelly Road, which was closed for a time, has now fully reopened.”
Tribute to Herbie Kelly
TUV Bannside Alderman Stewart McDonald expressed his condolences to Mr Kelly’s family and friends following the fatal collision.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Herbie Kelly in an accident in Cullybackey yesterday.
“When one has lived until 82 the expectation is that one will die peacefully at home but sadly this was not the case.
“My thoughts and prayers are very much with his family and friends at this time of what must be intense sadness.
“As with all traffic accidents, it is a reminder to us all to be ever vigilant on the roads.”
