Health Minister receives legal advice on lifting of restrictions in NI

Health Minister Robin Swann has said he has received legal advice around the lifting of coronavirus public health restrictions in Northern Ireland.

Earlier this week, in light of the resignation of the First Minister Paul Givan, the Minister said he was seeking such guidance “on how to replace remaining COVID restrictions - if not all - with clear guidance and advice.”

“Having reviewed the data the time to take this step is this week,” the Health Minister said on Monday.

Commenting this afternoon, Thursday 10 February, Health Minister Robin Swann stated:

"I can confirm I have now received detailed legal advice on the factors that need to be considered when seeking to amend Executive Covid regulations in the absence of an Executive.

"This advice is now being given careful consideration and it is my intention to engage with Ministerial colleagues."
