The volunteers of Portrush RNLI were tasked on Thursday afternoon (30 December) after reports were received of a surfer in difficulty in the area of Blackrock on the County Antrim coast.

The Belfast Coastguard issued a request for the Portrush Inshore Lifeboat at 1.10pm.

A spokesperson for Portrush RNLI commented:

“The volunteer crew launched at 1.20pm, but the surfer managed to get ashore unaided. The crew checked with other surfers in the area to make sure they were all ok before returning to station.”

Crew members Ben Durrant Helm, Raymond Fletcher, and Dan Thorne responded to the alert.
