Gobbins Coastal Path reopening confirmed
The world-famous Gobbins Coastal Path will reopen to the public next Tuesday, 1 September.
Renowned as one of the most beautiful and dramatic tourist attractions in Europe, the exhilarating walk at Islandmagee has been awarded the coveted ‘We’re Good to Go’ charter mark and now features a number of enhanced safety measures to maintain hygiene standards and social distancing in line with strict Covid-19 guidelines.
To assist with this, all visitors to the site are now asked to pre-book their tour, use ‘contactless’ payment methods where possible and adhere to a one-way system. Bookings and payment details can be found here.
Welcoming the announcement, Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, said the reopening marks another major step forward for Council as it affirms its continued commitment to the revitalisation of the local tourism industry.
“From breathtaking views to sandy beaches, Mid and East Antrim is a haven for tourists, visitors and locals alike and I am delighted to announce that one of our most popular and unique attractions, The Gobbins Costal Path, will be open again from Tuesday 1 September.
“The world-famous walkway and visitor centre is just one of the many sights and experiences our wonderful borough has to offer for the perfect day trip or staycation right on your doorstep.
“Our local tourism industry is a vital element of the borough’s wider economy, providing employment, enhancing communities and offering much-needed sources of relaxation for so many. The reopening of The Gobbins is a welcome boost to the industry and indicative of Council’s dedication to it.
“My thanks are extended to everyone who has worked so hard to achieve the ‘We’re Good to Go’ mark which gives visitors an added assurance that thorough guidance, processes and checks are in place to avoid unnecessary risks at this time.”
The Gobbins Coastal Path reopens on Tuesday 01 September, with guided tours from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
