Northern Trust: ‘The pressure facing our hospitals is unprecedented’

The Northern Health and Social Care Trust has appealed to the public on Tuesday afternoon (7 September) to not attend hospital unless they have a planned appointment or in need of immediate emergency care.

In a statement the Northern Trust said that hospitals were facing unprecedented pressures.

Latest data published today at 00:00 by the Northern Ireland Department of Health, show that across the province hospitals

are operating at 196 beds (106%) over capacity. There are 2,533 occupied general admission beds, while 434 are occupied by Covid patients. A spokesperson for the Northern Trust said:

“The pressure facing our hospitals is unprecedented.

“Please DO NOT attend unless you absolutely need to be there i.e. unless you have a planned hospital appointment or need immediate emergency care. The EDs will only be able to treat emergency cases.

“We are working intensely to maintain services and maintain flow through the hospitals. Please help us to make sure that no one remains in hospital who no longer requires hospital-led care. So if you are asked to pick up and care for a relative or to accept a care home not of your first choice please do so.”
