Five arrested after £1.1m cocaine seizure in Greater Belfast

Five men have been arrested after detectives seized around 14kg of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of more than £1.1 million during an organised crime operation in Greater Belfast.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Organised Crime Branch also recovered suspected herbal cannabis worth approximately £15,000 as part of the operation carried out across Monday, 10 August and Tuesday, 11 August.
Detectives said enquiries into the seizures remain ongoing.
Five men remain in police custody
The men, aged 26, 27, 33, 34 and 59, were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including possession of Class A and Class B controlled drugs with intent to supply.
All five remained in police custody on Tuesday evening.
The cocaine seizure alone is estimated by police to have a street value of £1,120,000.
Detective Inspector Miskelly said the operation formed part of continuing efforts to tackle the supply of illegal drugs and the harm associated with organised criminality.
‘Drugs bring harm and control into communities’
Detective Inspector Miskelly said:
“Families across Belfast do not want to see the lives of their young people and loved ones blighted by drugs. We know that drugs bring harm and control into communities, and only benefit those lining their pockets at the expense of others and the wider community.
“Anyone tempted to become involved in illegal drugs should be under no illusion; we will seek to identify them, arrest them and place them before the courts. I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone with any information about suspected drug dealing in their area to call the non-emergency number 101.”
Police have not provided further details at this stage about where the drugs were recovered or the circumstances surrounding the five arrests.
Enquiries into the suspected cocaine and cannabis seizures are continuing.
