Farmers’ Choir Northern Ireland has raised £2,200 for Northern Ireland Hospice and Rural Support following its Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols held at St Patrick’s Parish Church, Kilrea last December.
The fundraising total was generated through a freewill offering at the seasonal carol service, which drew strong support from local farmers, families and members of the wider rural community.
Carol service in Kilrea supports vital services across Northern Ireland
The special service, hosted by St Patrick’s Parish Church, brought together members of the farming and rural community in a celebration of music and fellowship. The Choir has extended its thanks to the church for hosting the event and to those who attended and donated.
At a recent rehearsal, Julie Martin from Northern Ireland Hospice and Pamela Caldwell from Rural Support attended to receive cheques of £1,100 each on behalf of their respective organisations.
Choir members were given an opportunity to hear more about the work carried out by both charities in supporting patients, families and rural communities throughout Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland Hospice provides specialist palliative care for infants, children and adults with life-limiting conditions, as well as support for families. Rural Support offers practical and emotional assistance to farming families and rural dwellers facing hardship or personal challenges.

Barkley Thompson, Musical Director of Farmers’ Choir Northern Ireland, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols and gave so generously through the freewill offering.
“The wonderful community spirit shown that evening by farmers, families, and friends from across the rural community allowed us to support these two organisations and help them continue the important work they do.”
The evening concluded with fellowship, conversation and supper, marking the close of a service that combined seasonal music with charitable giving and community connection.
Bringing the rural community together through music
Farmers’ Choir Northern Ireland brings together members of the farming and rural community through music, fostering friendship and enriching rural life across the region.
The £2,200 donation will contribute towards ongoing services delivered by Northern Ireland Hospice and Rural Support, both of which provide assistance to individuals and families navigating some of life’s most challenging circumstances.
