Exciting new plans for filling station and drive-thru in Ballymena

Updated: Feb 18, 2023

Plans have been lodged with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council for the latest development at the IMC Cinema site on the Larne Road Link in Ballymena.

Recent planning consultation documents reveal plans for a new Go filling station and an adjoining drive-thru restaurant.

The former car park opposite KFC has been fenced off now for a quite a number of months, and early speculation believed it was to be a new site for Tim Horton’s. However the Canadian coffee chain set it sights on the former unit occupied by Frankie & Benny’s, and Monroe’s, and opened its doors last week to the local public.

Although unconfirmed at this stage, the new drive-thru planned for the area is understood to be Burger King.

The addition of the Go filling station will be a welcome addition to Ballymena for drivers. The company’s self-styled 24hr unattended forecourts are known for their competitive prices with premises currently across Northern Ireland including Crumlin, Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey, Belfast, Cookstown, Londonderry, and a number of other towns.

The Go brand is part of the LCC Group, which incorporates a range of businesses - including Go Power, and was established in 1986. LCC is the leading solid and liquid fuel importer and distributor in Ireland.

According to the company’s website, Go offers a ‘fresh, contemporary new concept for the modern forecourt,’ and the ‘brand name is a local Irish brand from an established and proactive fuel company with new ideas, to help improve and modernise the retail forecourt sector’.

The new Go filling station Ballymena, will have 4 fuel pumps, serving up to eight vehicles, and plans include a car wash with car parking on site.

We have approached the LCC Group for comment on the development.
