Excess alcohol: Man charged after three children struck by car

A 37-year-old man has been charged following a road traffic collision in west Belfast in which three children were struck by a car.


The incident happened on Sunday, 24 August, in the Black Ridge View area, shortly before 5pm, when a car, while reversing, hit two girls and a boy as they played on the pavement.



The children were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which police have confirmed are not believed to be life threatening.


Police confirmed that a man has now been charged with a number of offences, including:


  • Driving with excess alcohol in breath

  • Causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving

  • Failing to stop where an accident occurred causing injury

  • Failing to remain where an accident occurred causing injury

  • Failing to report an accident whereby injury was caused



He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 26 August.


A PSNI spokesperson said:


“As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”



Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.


“Officers would ask anyone who witnessed the incident or who captured dash-cam or CCTV footage which could be of assistance to their investigation to contact police at Woodbourne on 101, quoting reference number 1201 24/08/25,” the spokesperson added.
