A man in his eighties has sadly died following a single-vehicle road traffic collision in Bushmills, County Antrim, police have confirmed.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, 3 January, in the Carnbore Road area of the town.

Chief Inspector Simpson, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said police received a report at approximately 2.35pm.

“Police received a report at around 2.35pm on Saturday afternoon of a one-vehicle collision involving a red Ford Kuga Titanium car in the Carnbore Road area.

“Officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene. The driver, a male in his eighties, was taken to hospital, where he sadly passed away a short time afterwards.”

Chief Inspector Simpson confirmed the road has since reopened.

“The Carnbore Road was closed for a time at the junction with Haw Road, but has since reopened.”

Police have expressed condolences to the man’s family and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

As part of their ongoing enquiries, officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who was in the area at the time and may have dash-cam or other digital footage, to come forward.

“Our enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 779 of 03/01/26.”
