North Antrim DUP MLA Paul Frew Welcomes the reinstatement of street lights in Thornbrooke in Ahoghill

North Antrim DUP MLA Paul Frew has welcomed the reinstatement of several street lighting posts in the Thornbrooke estate, Ahoghill, following concerns raised by local residents about safety and security.

Mr Frew said he was pleased to see the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) take swift action after he raised the issue directly on behalf of those living in the estate.

He stated:

“I am delighted that after liaising with residents in the Thornbrooke estate, Ahoghill, and writing directly to the Department of Infrastructure that they have now replaced the street lighting posts that had been removed due to corrosion.

“In The Thornbrooke estate alone one cul-de-sac had three of the five lampposts in that area removed. The lack of street lighting in a residential area left residents concerned for their safety and for the security of their properties.

“I want to thank the street lighting department within the Department for Infrastructure for responding to my letters and for the timely reinstatement of the new lighting columns.”

The DUP representative added that it is essential residents are not left without sufficient lighting, particularly during the darker winter months.

“It is my hope that if additional columns need to be removed in other areas throughout the town that these will be replaced as soon as possible,” he continued.

“People should not be without adequate street lighting in their areas, especially in the winter months. As always, if anyone is having similar issues with lighting in their area, please do not hesitate to get in touch with my office.”

The reinstatement has been welcomed locally, bringing improved visibility and reassurance to residents of the Ahoghill housing development.
