Dog dies after falling from cliff near Giant’s Causeway

The Coastguard has appealed to dog walkers to keep their pets on a lead after teams were alerted to the County Antrim coast when a dog fell from a cliff on Sunday morning (26 March).

Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Rope Rescue Teams and Portrush RNLI were tasked to the scene close to the Causeway Hotel at the Giants Causeway following a call for help.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said:

“Sadly, the animal was recovered deceased by the crew of the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat.

“The Coastguard appeals to all dog owners to keep their animals on a lead at all times when close to cliff edges.

”If your dog has fallen over a cliff, please do not attempt a rescue yourself but call 999 Coastguard.”
