Detectives make further arrest linked to abuse of patients at Muckamore Abbey



Detectives from Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Public Protection Branch investigating the allegations of ill-treatment of patients at Muckamore Abbey hospital, have arrested a 54 year old male today, Thursday 5 May, in the Antrim area.


This takes the total amount of arrests made so far to 30.



Yesterday, detectives also arrested a 38 year old male in the Antrim area. The man was later released by police, pending report to the Public Prosecution Service.

To date 38 people have now been informed they are to be prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service for a range of offences, including ill-treatment and wilful neglect contrary to the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986, in connection with the alleged ill-treatment of patients at Muckamore Abbey Hospital.
