PSNI Road Safety Officers have warned those travelling to the Disney on Ice event at the SSE Arena in Belfast, to do so safely and to allow extra time for travel to popular event.
It comes after police witnessed what they said were “irresponsible drivers” stopping on the motorway to drop off passengers, including children.
A police spokesperson said:
“Yesterday we saw irresponsible drivers stopping in live motorway lanes in order to allow passengers, including their kids, to alight and then walk down the hard shoulder to try and walk to the SSE Arena.
“This is far from acceptable - not only were those parents/motorists putting families and kids at risk by allowing them to get out of the vehicle on a motorway, they were also putting themselves at risk of a £60 ticket and 3 points for Stopping on the Motorway.”
Police went on to warn that pedestrians on the motorway also risk facing a £30 ticket each.
“Be courteous, be kind and stay safe. Please follow any directions given by Road Policing Officers,” the police spokesperson urged.
The Disney on Ice event will see three shows performed today, Sunday 5 December.
