Rescue operation launched after young person washed downstream in Portglenone

CRS Search and Rescue Boat on River

A rescue operation was launched on Thursday afternoon, 7th March, after it was reported a young person had entered the River Bann at Portglenone.


Police alongside colleagues from the Community Rescue Service (CRS), Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIAS) and Ambulance Service rushed to the scene of the incident around lunchtime today.



The volunteers of the CRS launched their Search and Rescue (SAR) boat to assist in the the operation.


A CRS spokesperson commented:


"At lunchtime today CRS volunteers were called to a report of a young person who had entered the River Bann at Portglenone.



"Emergency services including PSNI and NIFRS were quickly on scene as CRS deployed their SAR boat and brought the child on board from where they had been washed downstream.


"Returning to base the person was handed over to a waiting ambulance, cold and wet but hopefully unharmed. We wish them a speedy recovery."
