An entertainments licence for Shanes Castle Steam Rally was approved by Antrim and Newtowbabbey Borough Council at a meeting on Monday evening.

The event will take place at Shanes Castle Estate in Antrim from Friday, May 3, until Monday, May 6.

Designed as a family event, the rally offers on-site camping and entertainment. Tickets are purchased online.

Speaking at the meeting, Dunsilly Alliance Councillor Jay Burbank said he was “happy to propose the recommendation” to approve the licence."

“It is good to see all the requirements are met and there are no objections. It will be a great event,” Cllr Burbank said. His proposal was seconded by Dunsilly Ulster Unionist Cllr Stewart Wilson.

Preparations are also taking place for a spring plant fair which will be held for the first time next month at Mossley Mill. Garden Show Ireland will return to Antrim Castle Gardens in June.

Councillors were  told recently that last year’s Enchanted Winter Garden event which took place at Antrim Castle Gardens in November and December attracted almost 118,856 visitors.
