Community pays tribute to former Deputy Principal of Ballymena Academy



Tributes have been paid following the death of well-known and much-respected local woman Helen Sloan, who was a former Deputy Principal at Ballymena Academy.

Miss Sloan passed away peacefully on 28 February 2022 at Slemish Nursing Home, Ballymena, formerly of “Lynwood”, Carnlough Road, Broughshane.

A statement released by Ballymena Academy on Wednesday afternoon said:


“It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Miss Helen Sloan, a much loved and respected former Deputy Principal of the school.


”In her roles as pupil, Head Girl, teacher and finally Deputy Principal, Helen’s connection with Ballymena Academy began in 1938 and continued even beyond her retirement in 1993.”



Notice of Miss Sloan’s death and funeral arrangements was published online by James Henry Funeral Directors, stating:


“Dearly beloved daughter of the late Harry and Susan and loving sister of the late Harry, Jack, Betha and Edward.


“A service for family and friends will be held at Henry’s Funeral Parlour, 100 Broughshane Street, Ballymena, BT43 6EE, on Thursday 3rd March 2022 at 10.30am.


“Interment afterwards at 1st Broughshane Presbyterian Churchyard. No flowers please, donations in lieu, if desired, may be sent to James Henry Funeral Services (address above) for The Alzheimer’s Society. Lovingly remembered by her nephews and nieces at home and abroad.


“And whosoever lives and believes in me will never die saith the Lord” John Ch. 11 v 25.”
