Coastguard issues warning after two rescues at Portrush East Strand

Coleraine Coastguard has issued a warning to those enjoying the beaches and coastal waters after two people had to be rescued this week in the sea at Portrush East Strand.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said:

“On two occasions this week, along with RNLI personnel, we have responded to reports of persons in difficulty in the water at the East Strand Portrush.

“Thankfully, we were able to ensure that the three individuals involved all made it ashore safely and did not require immediate hospital treatment.

“These incidents are a reminder to be aware of the power of the backwash (as the waves go out) and of fast moving rip currents. As always, we would advise anyone intending to enjoy a trip to the beach to be aware of the warning signs and, where possible, to stay within the area patrolled by the lifeguards.”
