County Antrim’s ‘Dad of the Year’ has been the lucky recipient of an entirely free grocery shop courtesy of leading supermarket retailer Lidl Northern Ireland, after taking part in a thrilling ‘supermarket sweep’ style competition in their local Lidl Northern Ireland store.

In honour of Father’s Day 2023, Lidl Northern Ireland launched a special Father’s Day campaign asking families across the region to nominate the father figure in their life to be named Lidl Northern Ireland’s ‘Dad of the Year’, highlighting on social media the ‘Lidl’ things that make their dad so special.

Across the region, a total of six worthy dads – one in each county – were selected as Lidl Northern Ireland’s ’Dad of the Year’, giving them the opportunity to win an entire food shop as they took part in their very own ‘Daddy Dash.’

On Sunday 23rd July 2023, County Antrim dad David Long, took on Lidl Northern Ireland’s ‘Daddy Dash’ in his local Carrickfergus store. Nominated on social media by Ashleigh Watson, she acknowledged that partner David goes over and above every single day to show up and teach the kids, Florence and Harry, everything that's important in life.

The worthy winner took on the two-minute timer to bag as many of the family’s favourite items as possible and walked away with a trolley worth £209.04.

Commenting on the ‘Daddy Dash’ competition, Carrickfergus Store Manager Matthew Weavers said:

“This was a great opportunity for Lidl Northern Ireland to say thank you to all the dads in the local Co Antrim area and it was a pleasure to welcome David, Ashleigh, Florence and Harry to the Carrickfergus store to take on the ‘Daddy Dash’.

"This was a brilliant experience for the family and the Lidl staff who showed a lot of energy to support and direct dad David to grab as much as possible in 2-minutes, taking home a trolley load worth over £200”.
