Co Antrim man sentenced for offences including sexual assault

Today, Tuesday 10th August, a 31 year old County Antrim man was sentenced at Laganside Crown Court for a number of offences including sexual assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and attempting to choke with intent to commit an indictable offence.


Colin James, from the Ballyclare area, was sentenced to four years and six months.


He will serve two years and three months in prison and two years and three months on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and will be subjected to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for five years.



Detective Constable Donnelly said:


“This was a horrific case where the victim suffered a vicious attack at her home, a place where everyone should feel safe.


“Undoubtedly this was a distressing ordeal that left the victim feeling extremely concerned for her own personal safety.



“I would like to take this opportunity to praise the victim for her bravery in coming forward and assisting our investigation to bring Mr. James to justice.


“We would encourage anyone who have experienced any form of abuse to report to Police. We treat victims with the upmost respect and sensitivity and will work closely with them, even in challenging circumstances, to support them in any way they can. Report to police on 101 or always dial 999 in an emergency.”
