WATCH | Primary School pupils provide soundtrack for Christmas at Belfast City Airport
Primary 7 pupils from Towerview Primary School in Bangor have written and recited a poem which has been shared online by George Best Belfast City Airport as it welcomes passengers home for the Christmas holidays.
As one of the airport’s adopted schools, pupils from Towerview are usually invited to sing Christmas songs in the terminal for passengers at this time of year. However, due to the pandemic this hasn’t been possible this year.
Towerview Primary School Principal David Massey said:
“Singing in the airport and local shopping centres at Christmas is always a highlight and the children have really missed that the last two years. So our P7s were only too pleased to put their heads together and write a Christmas poem for passengers instead.
“The Christmas story itself features a very special journey, and this is the time of year when lots of very special journeys are being made right across the world, from people flying home to see their families and of course Santa who has a few very busy days ahead of him!
“We hope it makes people really think about what they appreciate and what they’re grateful for this Christmas time.”
Michelle Hatfield, Director of Corporate Services at the airport said:
“Thank you so much to Mr Massey, and the teachers and pupils at Towerview who have written this fantastic poem.
“Christmas really is a special time and the children have perfectly captured what it’s all about – spending time with our loved ones.
“The pandemic is still presenting challenges for us all but we hope everyone has an enjoyable, peaceful and safe Christmas and manages to spend some time with loved ones.”
The video, which shows families being reunited at the airport for Christmas and features the poem being recited by Amelie Waugh, Jamie Beggs and Coco Smith, can be viewed below.
A Christmas Poem
By Mr Beckett’s P7 Class at Towerview Primary School
Christmas is that time of year
When families come together for fun and cheer.
It’s the time we love to spend as one
Playing board games, charades and having fun.
We think of the journeys made at this time of year
From the Wise Men to Santa travelling far and near.
This is because we do not want to be apart
But together with those that are close to our heart.
Christmas is when travelling is key
Whether it’s a bus, an airplane or even a taxi.
We just want to get home to the people we love
To celebrate Jesus, the gift from above.
