Castle Mall in Antrim Town has reported a significant rise in footfall, up by 6.3% year-on-year, following a strategic wave of investment and a series of new leasing milestones that signal growing retailer confidence in the centre.

Owned by Keneagles Ltd since August 2022, Castle Mall has bucked the national trend of declining high street visits, showing renewed vitality thanks to an ambitious refurbishment programme and new tenant arrivals.

The mall, which is already home to high street names such as New Look, Specsavers, Superdrug, and Holland & Barrett, continues to position itself as a key retail destination in the region.

The latest phase of investment included the refurbishment of two high-specification retail units, one of which has been successfully let to Asian Mix, a world foods market. This new addition enhances the mall’s retail diversity and has played a key role in drawing more shoppers into the centre.

Another driving force behind the increased footfall has been Specsavers’ expanded offering, which now includes additional treatment rooms and the introduction of a trial Hearcare Centre. The move reflects a broader commitment to healthcare and innovation in Antrim, with Specsavers offering Digital Precision Eyecare alongside a wide range of classic and designer frames.

Further underlining the mall’s momentum, long-time tenant Gordons Chemist has renewed its lease for an additional ten years—an endorsement of Castle Mall’s growing stability and appeal to established brands.

Commenting on the centre’s progress, Pamela Minford, Centre Manager at Castle Mall, said:

“I am delighted to see momentum continuing to rise at Castle Mall as we enter the summer months, with the recent spikes in footfall and tenants reaffirming their commitment to the centre. The latest investment from our landlord has not only transformed vacant units into high-quality retail spaces but has also helped attract new retailers and retain our existing, valued tenants.

“The recent commitments made from our tenants underlines a renewed energy in the scheme, thanks to collaborative efforts between landlords, tenants, and the local community of Antrim. We are forever grateful to the local community for continuing to shop with us and support local.”

Castle Mall’s performance stands out as retail centres across the UK face increased pressure from changing consumer habits. With local engagement, strategic upgrades, and long-term tenant renewals, the Antrim shopping destination appears well-placed for sustainable growth.

Remaining leasing opportunities in the scheme can be discussed with the landlord’s agent, Frazer Kidd.
