Carly sets a challenge to get creative with fashion without much cost at CAN can Bazaar Ballymena

CAN can Bazaar Ballymena, the boutique that sells a range of previously loved and vintage items, has recently enjoyed a window makeover by the incredible and creative 16 year old Carly Devecchis.

The local girl, who has has Aspergers, loves nothing more than focussing her energies into creative expression through her sewing, modelling and photography projects, with the help of her boyfriend Ryan Sheppard.

“For the CAN can window, I used only recycled materials or items from the shop to create the pieces in the window,” Carly explained. “Pulling inspiration from the early 2000’s, the graffiti scene, Anime, Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier, I wanted to prove a point about sustainability and good fashion for affordable prices!”

Carly continued: “I gain most of my influence and inspiration from decades of pop culture ranging from the 1920's all the way through the decades to now. I adore film and music, and often create shoots around characters in movies. I enjoy making almost all of my costumes, sets and props myself.”

Delighted by the Carly’s creative touches, Karen McLaneon from CAN can Bazaar Ballymena, said the upstyled fashion on display has been a hit with shoppers.

Karen commented: “Carly has completely transformed both of our shop windows, and has used our previously loved pieces to transform them into fashion works of art.

“Carly took cargo pants and made them into a dress! A ‘Hello Kitty’ t-shirt made into a fashion forward bra top, and what can we say about the trousers... my word, the girl has just reinvented them and has given them the most funky spin.

“We could have sold Carly's pre-loved funked-up pieces a thousand times over!”

Now CAN can Bazaar has set the challenge to see what you can make with items of pre-loved clothing.

“Pop over and have a look for yourself and be inspired at our Church Street store in Ballymena,” Karen said. “What would you make with our clothing? We would absoultely love it for you to take up the challenge to create the latest fashion from items in our store, send us photos, that we share to inspire others!

“Fashion does not need to cost a fortune.”

Perhaps if a sewing machine is like a foreign object only to be used by a professional, CAN can Bazaar have an excellent range of amazing stock for you to enjoy that magical retail therapy fix.
