Car stolen after Bellaghy home broken into before dangerous driving crash

A car stolen after a house was broken into in Bellaghy was reportedly driven dangerously before crashing into a field and later being found abandoned in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses and footage as they investigate the burglary and vehicle theft, which unfolded in the Mullaghboy Road area on Sunday 9 August.
Police received the first report at approximately 2am, after the vehicle was seen being driven dangerously on Mullaghboy Road.
The car crashed into a field before being driven off at speed.
House entered and car keys taken
Follow-up enquiries by detectives established that the vehicle had been stolen from outside a property in the same area.
Police said access had been gained to a house and the keys to the vehicle taken before the car was stolen.
Around 40 minutes after the initial report, officers located the damaged vehicle abandoned close to the junction of Old Tyanee Road and Glenone Road.
It was found at approximately 2.40am, with no one present.
Police seek witnesses and footage
Detectives are now trying to establish who was responsible and are appealing particularly to anyone who was in the Mullaghboy Road, Old Tyanee Road or Glenone Road areas shortly before 2am and may have noticed suspicious activity.
Police are also seeking dash-cam, CCTV or other footage which could assist their investigation.
