Local lady Dorothy Glass is marking an amazing achievement of 50 years in nursing.

The Lead Nurse at Broughshane District Nursing Team started out in her career in 1971 at Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast, and according to colleagues, true to her character, Dorothy shows no sign of slowing down.

Today a spokesperson for the Northern Health and Social Care Trust (NHSCT) commented:

“The Trust would like to acknowledge Dorothy Glass’s remarkable achievement of 50 years in nursing.

“Dorothy commenced her nursing career in 1971 at Musgrave Park Hospital Belfast completing her training in 1974. A year later she began her training as a midwife at the Royal Maternity Hospital where she stayed for a year after qualifying.

“Dorothy then worked as a midwife in the Waveney, Robinson and Route Hospitals.

“She left Northern Ireland in 1979 and went to work in Holland for two years. Returning home in 1981 she was successfully selected to participate in the first ever District Nursing Course (SPQ) at Jordanstown University.

“Dorothy has remained working in District Nursing Services for an incredible 40 years somehow finding the time to complete a BSC (Hons) in the care of Older People in 2007.

“Her dedication and commitment to the nursing profession and patients can only be described as exceptional. The Trust would like to congratulate her on a remarkable career and wish her every success for the future.”

Congratulations Dorothy, and thank you!
