Eight-year-old Daisy Doherty

In a world that can often feel a little heavy, one young girl from Broughshane is bringing a powerful reminder of kindness, compassion and hope.

Eight-year-old Daisy Doherty, a pupil at Broughshane Primary School, is preparing to take on a remarkable challenge this July as she donates her hair to help create a wig for a child who has lost theirs through illness.

Inspired by the work of Little Princess Trust, the charity which provides real-hair wigs free of charge to children and young people facing cancer treatment and other conditions that cause hair loss, Daisy wanted to do more than simply make the donation.

She has also set herself an ambitious fundraising target of £700 — the amount needed to help cover the cost of creating just one wig.

For Daisy, this is more than a haircut. It is a heartfelt mission to help another child regain confidence and feel like themselves again during an incredibly difficult time.

A big-hearted idea from a young local girl

What makes Daisy’s story even more touching is that the idea came entirely from her.

She approached her parents, David and Lisa, and told them this was something she wanted to do. Since then, the family has come together to help turn her compassionate idea into reality.

Those closest to Daisy describe her as kind, thoughtful and always thinking of others — qualities that shine through in this inspiring act of generosity.

Her decision is already capturing hearts across the local community, with supporters rallying behind her efforts.

Fundraising to make a real difference

An online donation page has now been set up to support Daisy’s fundraiser, while sponsorship forms are also available for anyone who wishes to contribute.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will help Daisy move closer to her £700 goal and help provide a wig for a child in need.

For many young people experiencing hair loss due to illness, a real-hair wig can be life-changing — restoring confidence, comfort and a sense of normality.

Daisy’s fundraising effort is a beautiful example of how one small act of kindness can make a huge difference in someone else’s life.

Community pride in Broughshane

Stories like Daisy’s resonate deeply because they reflect the generosity and community spirit that people across Broughshane and the wider Ballymena area know so well.

At just eight years old, Daisy is already showing a level of empathy and selflessness beyond her years.

Sometimes superheroes do not wear capes — sometimes they simply have a big heart and the courage to care.

Daisy’s challenge this summer is not just about donating hair. It is about giving hope, confidence and comfort to another child when they need it most.

And for that, she is truly inspiring.
