Big weekend celebrations in Broughshane for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee

The small community of Broughshane are banding together to pull off a big weekend of celebrations to honour Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, and making it one to remember across the generations.

Festivities kick off on Friday (3 June) with a magnificent Jubilee Street Party, organised by Broughshane District LOL No. 18.

The flag lined Broughshane main street will be closed to traffic from 12 noon, ahead of celebrations beginning at 1pm under the strings of red, white and blue bunting.

The afternoon will be focussed around main stage set up in the village, opposite the Orange Hall, where everyone can enjoy a mix of entertainment with live music including local artists, bands, and Fifes and Drums playing throughout the afternoon.

There will also be bouncy castles, street performers, the Godmodex Gaming bus and much, much more available for families throughout the day - all completely free of charge.

During the afternoon you can also enjoy a short pageant, consisting of around a dozen bands, vintage tractors, other notable items, and characters in period costume from the past 100 years of Northern Ireland.

The pageant will form up on the Broughshane Road, close to Fairways, and commence around 2pm.

The procession will make its way through the village to the Tullymore Road, pausing at the War Memorial for the laying of Wreaths. It will then turn around and return to Fairways once again.

At approximately 3pm, the official street party will be opened by the Worshipful District Master Bro. Thomas Reid followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

Take along your own picnic or enjoy the BBQ that will be available outside Broughshane Orange Hall at a cost of £5 for a burger/hotdog and a drink with all profits going to the Braid District, as well as several other vendors providing tea, coffee and sweets. Commemorative programmes will be on sale to mark the day at a cost of £3.

There will be plenty to keep everyone entertained all day - just make sure to take your dancing shoes!

Celebrations continue on Saturday (4 June) with a special Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Party in the grounds of Houston’s Mill in the village.

Bring your own picnic and get ready for another day of free community fun, starting at 4pm and ending around 8pm. Everyone can enjoy music, a spectacular fancy dress parade, and great entertainment for all the family.

A selection of outdoor catering is also available for those who wish to purchase from a great selection of food, ice creams and snacks.

Free registration is now open for the Fancy Dress Parade - please note it is not a competition. Every registered child attending will receive a Platinum Jubilee collectable commemorative medal!

Registration for the fancy dress parade closes on Thursday 2 May at 12 noon. Register now at:

A limited number of family picnic tables may still be available for booking (£10 per table). To book please call 028 2586 2777.
