The Belfast Health & Social Care Trust has issued a statement on Thursday afternoon following the sad news of the death of Tony Doherty who was an employee of the Trust, and who passed away after contracting Covid-19.
It is reported that Mr Doherty was the third person from the family to have died from
the virus within one week.
In a statement a spokesperson for the Belfast Trust said: “The Patient & Client Support Services team and wider Belfast HSC Trust are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague Tony Doherty.
“Tony was a valued member of our team, but more importantly, he was our friend.
“Tony was a larger than life figure with a heart of gold who made an instant and lasting impression on everyone he met. We all shared many laughs and good times with Tony and we hope these memories can provide some comfort to everyone in the days and weeks ahead.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with Tony's wife and son, his family and friends at this very sad time. We would ask that the family's privacy is respected.”
Tony’s parents passed away at the beginning of last week, while it is reported that his brother is also seriously ill.
