Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has said residents of Beech Drive in Ballymena are frustrated at lack of grass cutting within the developments three large green areas and the washing of hands of government agencies.
The North Antrim MLA said:
"I have visited residents within Beech Drive and have saw for myself the length of grass which is now well over a foot long. These are big green areas which would normally be amenable to residents and for children to play on. They are now, because of the grass length, becoming a danger and an environmental hazard.
"I have been on to the Council, DFI, the Housing Executive and the construction company and at the minute all seem to be washing their hands of responsibility.
"Residents that I have spoken to have lived in Beech Drive for almost 30 years and this is the first time there has been a problem with the grass not being cut. This is an issue that needs to be resolved quickly and I am continuing to engage with agencies to bring about a speedy resolution.
It is believed Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) cutted grass in the area until recently. Love Ballymena asked NIHE to confirm this and to clarify the reason for stopping the service.
In response a spokesperson for the Housing Executive said:
“This land is not in our ownership and we have been liaising with local representatives to find a successful resolution to issues related to it.”
