Coastguard Rescue Teams were tasked in the early hours of Tuesday morning (26 October) after an alarm was raised when a person’s personal belongings were discovered on the shoreline in Portstewart.
Rescue teams from Coleraine and Ballycastle launched in the early hours at 2.30am when a person was reported in the water off rocks near Portstewart Strand.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said:
“A search operation began involving Coastguard teams, Portrush RNLI, R118 Helicopter, PSNI and K9 Search and Rescue NI.
“A casualty was located in the sea by the lifeboat and brought to shore where first aid was administered by RNLI and Coastguard before the casualty was handed into the care of Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.”
