Karla Turnbull, who works with Action for Children’s Ballymena & Little Steps Antrim SureStart service, is preparing to take on the renowned Antrim Coast Half Marathon this August to raise money for a cause close to her heart.

Despite only taking up running at the start of this year, Karla is already pushing herself to remarkable heights.

After completing a five-mile leg of the Belfast City Marathon as part of an Action for Children relay team earlier this year, she’s now set her sights on the full 13.1-mile challenge of the Antrim Coast Half Marathon.

The event, which takes place on 24 August 2025, is regarded as one of the most scenic half marathons in Northern Ireland.

Runners begin at the iconic Antrim Coast Road and follow a flat and fast course through Larne Harbour, Larne town, and along the world-famous coastline, with its breathtaking views that have featured in global film and television productions, including HBO’s Game of Thrones.

But for Karla, the race is about much more than fitness or personal goals. It’s about making a meaningful difference in children’s lives.

“I need your help. I’m taking part in Antrim Coast Half Marathon 2025 to raise money for Action for Children, who do great work for a cause that’s very close to my heart,” said Karla.

“Putting myself forward to running this distance is setting myself a challenge as I only started running this year, initially to take part in the Belfast marathon as part of an Action for Children relay team.

“Having successfully managed to run 5 miles I have now set my sights on the goal of running a half marathon distance of 13 miles. Any amount of a donation is greatly appreciated with the money raised helping to support all children to have a safe and happy childhood. Thank you.”

Karla’s fundraising efforts support Action for Children, a leading UK charity dedicated to giving vulnerable children and young people the safe and happy childhoods they deserve.

The organisation works across communities to offer support in education, mental health, family services and child protection.

Supporters can back Karla’s efforts and contribute to her campaign by donating through her GivenGain fundraising page:

With just weeks to go until the race, Karla is training hard and hopes her journey will inspire others to support her mission and the vital work of Action for Children.
