Ballymena lad faces Canadian national team in final warm-up prior to the FIFA 2022 World Cup

Ballymena teenager Scott Montgomery took to the field with Dubai City FC this week to face a friendly with the Canadian national team, bringing to conclusion their final warm-up prior to the FIFA 2022 World Cup being hosted in Qatar.

In less than a few days, National side Canada will take centre stage in the FIFA 2022 world cup tournament.

The Canadian side offered Dubai City a publicly displayed friendly game at the Al-Maktoum stadium, home to Al Nasr SC, to fully conclude their World Cup preparations.

Hailing from Broughshane, 18-year-old Scott who has just completed his A Levels at Cambridge House in June, signed on a one year deal with Dubai, with the option of an extension.

The talented local lad was scouted by Dubai City’s head coach while attending a UK football trials camp in England earlier this year.

The gifted central midfielder started his career at the Ballymena mini soccer set up before completing the entire Ballymena United Youth Academy back in 2019.

He has since gone on to gain appearances in Ballymena reserves and feature in Club NI’s set up for several years.

Now, one week after scoring his first professional goal in the UAE pro leagues, Scott Montgomery was included in the Dubai City first team to face world cup side Canada, before they take on Kevin De Bruyne’s Belgium in their first group stage game in a few days time.

Montgomery was named in the starting 11 to battle against global star Alphonso Davies’ team.

The Dubai City side exceeded expectations and were defeated by a small margin of 2-0 in a stunning display by Scott and his teammates.
