Simon and Chloe Houston of Houston Hair reach finals in prestigious national competition
A father and daughter duo from Ballymena are celebrating national recognition after being named finalists in HJ’s prestigious British Hairdressing Awards 2025, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional.
Simon Houston, owner of Houston Hair, has been shortlisted in the Northern Ireland Hairdresser of the Year category, while his daughter, Chloe Houston, has reached the finals in the Newcomer of the Year category.
Their double success highlights the creative force of the family-run salon, placing Ballymena firmly on the map of British hairdressing excellence.

The awards, considered among the most respected in the global hairdressing industry, will culminate in a glittering ceremony at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London on Monday 24th November 2025.
A family affair at the top of their game
Simon Houston expressed pride not only in reaching the finals himself but also in sharing the experience with his daughter:
“Being named a finalist at the British Hairdressing Awards is an amazing achievement – but having the chance to do it alongside my daughter makes it truly unforgettable.
“It’s not every day you get to share such a proud professional moment with family, and standing on that stage together is a dream we never imagined would come true twice over.”

Industry leaders praise Ballymena finalists
The British Hairdressing Awards are known for celebrating the best in creative and technical talent. This year’s first round of judging took place at Epsom Downs Racecourse on 21st July, where industry leaders assessed hundreds of entries across 18 categories.
Jayne Lewis-Orr, Executive Director of Hairdressers Journal International, said:
