Ballymena BID has joined forces with local company Knockdene Healthcare to deliver vital defibrillator and first aid training to town centre businesses, reinforcing Ballymena’s commitment to safety and community wellbeing.

Staff from Wallaces, Front Page Bar, Camerons, and Ballymena BID took part in the latest annual training session, led by Laura from Knockdene Healthcare.

These businesses are among several that house defibrillators provided and maintained by Ballymena BID, including an external unit situated at the top of Church Street.

The initiative ensures that more people across Ballymena town centre are confident and equipped to respond quickly in a medical emergency. Defibrillators have already played a crucial role locally, having been used in real-life emergencies in recent years.

During the hands-on training, participants learned how to recognise a cardiac emergency, perform CPR, use a defibrillator safely, and respond to other common medical incidents such as asthma attacks or diabetic emergencies.

The session also covered legal responsibilities around first aid and emphasised the life-saving importance of rapid action.

“Having accessible defibs is one thing but having people who know how to use them can truly save lives,” said Clare from Ballymena BID.

“We’re proud to team up with Knockdene Healthcare on this annual training and to continue strengthening emergency preparedness across the town centre.”

Laura from Knockdene Healthcare added:

“In a cardiac arrest, every second matters. Early access to a defib and someone who knows what to do can make the difference between life and death. It’s brilliant to see local businesses embracing this responsibility and taking part every year.”

Ballymena BID extended its thanks to Knockdene Healthcare for its ongoing partnership and delivery of this essential training programme.

Local businesses are encouraged to stay updated on upcoming training sessions and events through Ballymena Means and BID email communications.

Those interested in exploring the full range of first aid and healthcare training can contact Laura at Knockdene Healthcare via laura@knockdene.co.uk.

With more trained staff now spread across multiple venues, Ballymena town centre is better prepared than ever to respond if the worst happens.
