Appeal for information after theft of water pump from Loan Mission Hall

The team at Loan Mission Hall have appealed for information following the theft of an old water pump from the hall located at Cullybackey, outside Ballymena.

It is understood that the pump was removed from the yard wall sometime between Tuesday 1 March and Saturday 12 March.

Joe Martin from Loan Mission Hall explained that the cast iron feature was “a sentimental piece as it was part of the history of the Mission Hall.”

Talking to Love Ballymena, Joe said:

“The hall was built in the mid-1800s and was originally a school. The school closed when Diamond Primary School opened in October 1938. It was then used for a pipeband hall, and after that it was handed over to be used as a Mission Hall/Sunday School.

“The pump was not operational but was an original feature, installed when the hall was built in the 1840’s. It was part of the history of Loan that remained there since.”

Currently Loan Mission Hall is being renovated with all money for the project being donated from the local community.

The team at Loan Mission Hall would appreciate the pump being returned to where it belongs.

If anyone you have any information on the pump, please contact the Loan Mission Hall Facebook page, or telephone Joe on 07511111053.
