Alliance MLA for North Antrim, Sian Mulholland, has issued a strong condemnation after racist and hateful graffiti, including a swastika and racial slurs, was discovered on a bridge over Toome Road in Ballymena earlier today.
The offensive graffiti was reported to the PSNI after being brought to Ms Mulholland’s attention by a concerned constituent.
The MLA described the incident as “racist, hateful, and completely unacceptable”, urging swift removal of the graffiti and for those responsible to be held accountable.
“I unequivocally condemn this graffiti as racist, hateful, and completely unacceptable,” Ms Mulholland said.
“There is no place in North Antrim - or anywhere in Northern Ireland - for racism, antisemitism, or hatred of any kind. I stand in solidarity with those affected, particularly minority and ethnic communities who may feel unsafe or unwelcome.”

The Alliance representative confirmed she had reported the incident to both the PSNI and the landowner to ensure the graffiti is removed as a matter of urgency.
She added: “I have reported this incident to the PSNI and to the landowner to have it removed urgently. I urge anyone with information to come forward and help prevent further incidents.
“Together, we must work towards a Northern Ireland where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.”
Local police have been made aware of the vandalism, and investigations are expected to follow to identify those responsible.
The incident has sparked wider discussion about the persistence of hate crime and racism in Northern Ireland, with calls for continued efforts to promote inclusivity and respect within communities.
