TUV Alderman Stewart McDonald has welcomed long-awaited resurfacing works on Killane Road, describing the project as “long overdue” and a “relief” for local residents.
Major improvement works are set to get underway along Killane Road from Monday 20 October. The scheme includes resurfacing of both the main carriageway and footways from the Galgorm Road junction to the well-known Beehive Shed.
The works are planned to continue for four weeks until completion.
Alderman McDonald, who represents Braid for the TUV on Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, said the upgrade follows “four years of persistent campaigning and engagement with council and contractors.”
“I am delighted to welcome the news that Killane Road is finally being resurfaced, including the footways along this stretch from the Galgorm Road junction all the way to the beehive shed,” he said.
“This improvement has been long overdue, and local residents have rightly been calling for action for years.
“After four years of persistent campaigning and engagement with council and contractors, it is a relief to see this essential work finally happening.”

The Alderman said the long-anticipated resurfacing project would bring clear safety and visual benefits for the local community.
“This resurfacing will not only make the road safer and more comfortable for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, but it will also improve the overall look and accessibility of our community,” he added.
“I want to thank everyone who raised concerns over the years and pushed for this project—your voices have made a real difference. This is a tangible example of what can be achieved when local people and representatives work together to make our area better for everyone.”
Local residents had repeatedly highlighted the poor surface condition of the route, with potholes and uneven footpaths causing frustration for motorists and pedestrians alike.
The new works are expected to enhance road safety, accessibility, and appearance across the busy stretch.
