£420,000 resurfacing works gets underway on A43 Glenravel Road in Cargan

A major road improvement scheme worth £420,000 is set to get underway in County Antrim, with Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins confirming that resurfacing works on the A43 Glenravel Road, Cargan will begin on Monday 11 August 2025.
The works will cover a 1.88-kilometre stretch from the northern edge of Cargan village to the local council boundary and will include significant drainage upgrades starting from week commencing 28 July.
Describing the scheme as “a substantial investment for the Cargan area,” Minister Kimmins said:
“This is a substantial investment for the Cargan area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our rural road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.
“I would like to thank residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”
Night-time road closures in place
To ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the works, a full road closure will be in place from Monday 11 August to Friday 22 August 2025, between the hours of 8pm and 4am.
Diversion routes
The Department for Infrastructure has provided the following diversionary routes:
Cars: Via Carnlough – A42 Broughshane Road / Raceview Road / Carnlough Road, A2 Bay Road / Harbour Road / Garron Road / Main Street (and vice versa).
HGVs (due to height restrictions in Carnlough): Via Ballycastle – A42 Broughshane Road, M2 Ballymena Bypass, A26 Crankill Road / Frosses Road, A44 Drones Road / Hillside Road / Magheramore Road / Moyarget Road / Coleraine Road / Castle Street, A2 Ann Street / Quay Road / Mary Street / Cushendall Road / Loughareema Road / Tromra Road / Chapel Road / Mill Street / Bridge Street / Coast Road (and vice versa).
The Department has stated that local access will be maintained where possible and that all necessary traffic management measures have been designed to minimise disruption.
However, motorists are advised to allow additional travel time and to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions in place.
Completion timeline
The resurfacing is expected to be substantially complete by Friday 22 August 2025, subject to favourable weather conditions. The Department has pledged to keep the public informed of any updates or changes to the programme.
