Young woman killed in north Belfast hit-and-run as driver arrested after fleeing scene

A 24-year-old woman has sadly died and a man has been left seriously injured after they were struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run collision in north Belfast during the early hours of Thursday morning.
The woman has been named by police as Raven Adams, originally from the Tipperary area.
A 22-year-old man was also seriously injured in the collision, which happened in the York Street area at around 2.40am on Thursday, 16 July.
Driver arrested after leaving scene
Police say both pedestrians were struck by a single vehicle before the driver fled the scene on foot.
A 22-year-old man was later arrested by officers in the nearby Cavehill area and remains in police custody while detectives continue their investigation.
Emergency services attended the scene and provided medical treatment to both pedestrians.
Sadly, Ms Adams was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured man was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
Police appeal for witnesses
Detective Inspector Stewart, from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit, said:
“We received a report at approximately 2.40am of a single-vehicle collision involving two pedestrians.
“It was reported the pedestrians were struck by a vehicle - the driver of which, a 22-year-old man, subsequently fled the scene, and was later arrested by officers in the nearby Cavehill area.
“He remains in police custody at this time as enquiries continue into the circumstances of what happened.”
The detective added that officers attended alongside other emergency services, where both casualties received medical treatment before the woman was pronounced dead.
The road, which was closed for a forensic examination, has since fully reopened.
Investigation continues
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident, to come forward.

As the investigation continues, detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal collision, while the arrested man remains in custody.
