Vehicle stolen in Ahoghill crashed near Kells

Red car overturned crashed on bridge.

PSNI Road Policing Unit (Steeple) were called to assist officers from Ballymena this week after a vehicle was stolen from the Ahoghill area of the town.


Local police received a number of reports on Thursday evening (31st August) which included burglaries in The Croft, Cullybackey Road and Brooklands areas of Ahoghill. It was reported locally that a male had been going from house to house trying doors, and walked into one home where a woman and her daughter were present.



Police also received a report of an assault on a woman on Main Street.


A spokesperson from PSNI Road Policing Unit commented on Friday (1 September):


"Colleagues from the Road Policing Unit in Steeple assisted Officers from Ballymena last night when a vehicle was reported as stolen from Ahoghill.


"Unfortunately, the vehicle had crashed near Kells before police could get to it - thankfully no one was injured.



"A man was arrested at the scene for a number of offences and is helping police with their enquiries."


Police later charged the 27 year old man with a number of offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated vehicle taking, burglary, criminal damage, driving whilst disqualified and dangerous driving.


The man is due to appear at Antrim Magistrates Court on Saturday 2nd September.
