The Utility Regulator today has announced it has commenced a formal review of the regulated gas tariffs for SSE Airtricity Gas Supply (in the Greater Belfast and West areas) and Firmus Energy (Ten Towns area).

This regulatory action is part of the ongoing oversight by the Utility Regulator, which is responsible for regulating gas prices for these providers, as well as electricity prices for Power NI's domestic customers.

The review process involves a thorough examination of the components constituting the regulated tariffs to ensure that any changes reflect the current economic environment and operational costs.

The Utility Regulator stated that they "continuously monitor the components that make up these regulated tariffs and then approve any resulting change to tariffs when necessary."

According to the announcement, the formal review of gas tariffs for SSE Airtricity Gas Supply and Firmus Energy is expected to conclude by late February, followed by public announcements regarding any adjustments to the tariffs.

It should be noted that the most recent adjustment to the regulated domestic tariff for Power NI occurred on 1 December 2024, and this tariff is not part of the current review cycle.

This ongoing regulation ensures that prices remain fair and reflective of the actual costs of supply, balancing the interests of both the consumers and the energy providers.
