The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, has condemned the widespread vandalism at Ahoghill Community Centre after graffiti was extensively daubed across the facility.

The damage affected walls, doors, outdoor seating, shelters and fencing, prompting both community anger and an urgent clean-up operation.

Speaking following the discovery, Mayor Minford said:

“I am extremely disappointed to see this graffiti that has marred our community centre. Unfortunately, any graffiti or damage that falls to Council to remove or repair ultimately results in a cost to ratepayers.”

The Mayor confirmed that he has raised the matter with local community police.

“Such unacceptable behaviour is to be condemned and cannot be allowed to continue. Anyone with information about vandalism or other anti-social behaviour in their area should contact police on 101.”

Clean-up underway

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council confirmed that work to remove the graffiti is already being carried out and is expected to be completed by the end of the week.

The incident follows other recent reports of vandalism in the town, raising concerns about a rise in antisocial behaviour.
