Ukrainian community celebrate Independence Day in Ballymena



Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Noel Williams recently attended Ukraine’s Independence Day celebratory event, organised by the Inter-Ethnic Forum.


He said: “The Inter-Ethnic forum, along with other partners, continues to work closely with council on the delivery of the Ukrainian assistance centre.



“Since opening the Ukrainian assistance centre at the Braid in Ballymena we have assisted over 300 individuals, comprising of approximately 95 family and other groups over this timeframe.



“The centre has also provided advice and services to almost 50 host families with a wide range of partners having attended the centre including the Inter-Ethnic Forum, MEACAS – Citizens advice, Northern Health and Social Care Trust, Housing Executive, Education Authority and the Law Centre.


“It was a pleasure to attend this celebratory event in Ballymena and to meet with so many who have come to Mid and East Antrim to start afresh.”




The event itself also marks the completion of a series of Basic English Language classes held over the summer, which was funded through Radius Housing. These classes have been a huge success with separate sessions for Primary age children, Post Primary youths, Adults Basic language and Adults intermediate.
